On Saturday October 1, the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen took on the St. Peter’s Prep Marauders at MetLife stadium, coming out victorious 35-26. The Ironmen go into their bye week as the number 2 ranked team in New Jersey, behind the Bergen Catholic Crusaders according to MaxPreps.
The run game for Bosco was essential to their victory, with Nolan James (’25) and Logan Bush (’24) putting up huge numbers. Nolan James ended the game with 62 rushing yards, 23 receiving yards, 1 rushing touchdown and 1 receiving touchdown. Logan Bush rushed for a huge 196 yards, and got himself 2 rushing touchdowns in the process. Quarterback Nick Minicucci (’23) did not have many pass attempts, but he did convert 4/9 passes for 55 yards; he continued his efficiency while running the ball, rushing for 37 yards and a rushing touchdown. Kicker Jack Donnelly (’25) went 5/5 on extra point attempts, continuing his good form. (All statistics according to MaxPreps)
Linebackers Jayden Brown (’24), and Lamon Lester (24’) were standouts on the defensive side of the ball. Both earned 4 solo tackles and 5 assisted tackles. However, the Ironmen found it difficult to stop St. Peter’s from scoring; every time the Ironmen scored, the Marauders answered back with a touchdown of their own. With the score being 28-26 in favor of Bosco, the defense stepped up. Outside linebacker Vincent Bertone (’24) stopped St. Peter’s’ 2-point attempt with a solo tackle in the red zone. After the Ironmen marched down the field to score another touchdown, safety Nick Severin (’23) put the game out of reach with a late interception. (All statistics according to MaxPreps)
The celebrations will continue for the Ironmen as they enter their bye week. Looking ahead, the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen take on the Seton Hall Prep Pirates on 10/14. Don Bosco Prep look to continue their winning streak with the playoffs getting closer.
