On Friday, October 28, the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen took on DePaul Catholic in their last regular season game of the season. The Ironmen would come away with a tight 28-25 victory. With this victory, Bosco solidified its place as the #1 seed in the NJ Non-Public A Playoffs; they will receive the by this week, and will play the winner of St. John Vianney vs. St. Augustine next week.
The run game has been the primary focus of the Ironmen’s offense, but against DePaul, quarterback Nick Minicucci (‘23) was able to showcase his arm talent. Minicucci attempted 28 passes, completing 20 for 183 yards total, 3 of them being passing touchdowns; Minicucci also had 1 rushing touchdown. Running back Logan Bush (‘24) continues to be reliable for the Ironmen in Ronnie Heath’s (‘23) absence due to injury. Bush rushed for 121 yards on 21 carries, as well as catching a screen pass and getting himself a 3-yard touchdown. Wide receivers Bobby Mays (‘24) and Dan Parisi (‘23) each garnered a receiving touchdown. Jack Donnelly (‘25) continues to impress this season, going 4/4 on PAT attempts. This is his fourth straight game not missing an extra point attempt.
Defensively, the Ironmen had a lot of high points throughout the game. Linebacker Vincent Bertone (‘24) led the team in tackles, with 3 solo and 2 assisted tackles; defensive back Conor Cosgrove (‘24) was right behind him with 2 solo and 2 assisted tackles. Linebacker Kyle Ramos (‘25) and defensive end Aidan Horodnik both were able to sack the Spartan quarterback. Safety Nick Severin (‘23) had a season-high 2 interceptions. The Ironman were strong enough to hold DePaul to only 25 points, but look to decrease that margin.
The Ironman played strong enough to edge the victory over DePaul, but they hope to put teams away in more convincing fashion throughout the playoffs. Bosco will take these next two week to prepare as they wait to see who their opponent will be.
