By Joseph Valenza ’24

RAMSEY, NJ – The annual DBP Spirit Week festivities have officially commenced on Monday (January 29) in the final hour of the school day.

Monday’s theme was “Jersey Day,” where the student body dressed down and represented their favorite sports team with a colorful array of jerseys:

The first game of the 2024 DBP Spirit Week will most likely be the shortest, with the entire event lasting around two minutes in total. The Bounce Race was a relay-style race between the four grades, in which competitors hopped across the gymnasium floor on rubber bouncy balls.

As expected, the Seniors finished in first place with an astounding lead over the Juniors and underclassmen, giving them an early lead in the Spirit Week class rankings.

Dodgeball

The second game was a tournament-style Dodgeball competition, which consisted of 5 official matches:

  • Game 1: Juniors Vs. Freshmen
    • Juniors win
  • Game 2: Seniors Vs. Sophomores

  • Game 3 – Redemption Championship: Seniors Vs. Freshmen
    • Seniors win
  • Game 4 – Championship: Sophomores Vs. Juniors
    • Juniors win
  • Game 5 – Retribution: Seniors Vs. Juniors
    • Seniors win
Senior Dodgeball Team

Despite some setbacks early in the tournament, the Class of 2024 asserted dominance over the Champion Junior class in the final game. This disappointing loss by the Class of ’25 has led to doubts about whether it was the Seniors who truly deserved the Dodgeball Championship title. Either way, the Junior class gained some points toward the Spirit Week class rankings and set their sights on the next day’s games: Musical Chairs, Pickleball, and Knock-out.
