MAHWAH, NJ – “This has gotta be a record” read one comment made on the DBP DECA Instagram account’s post, following the participation of well over 100 Ironmen at the DECA regional competition at Ramapo College in Mahwah.
DECA, which stands for “Distributive Education Clubs of America,” is a non-profit organization whose mission, according to its website, is to “prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.”
One way in which DECA prepares youth for these industries is by holding conferences around the country in which high school students from all walks of life come together to compete in numerous role-playing events in the business field.
This year, the 2024 North West District Conference was held at Ramapo College on January 12. Many schools made an appearance, including Don Bosco Prep and our very own Ironmen.
Our fellow brothers arrived at the conference in business attire, ready to put on a show. They meant business, no pun intended.
According to an email from Jason Manzella, a DBP DECA Club officer, after the regional conference, “We about doubled the number of boys that qualified through role plays from last year…”. This accomplishment is a testament to the drive and determination of Don Bosco Prep students, constantly leading the pack in anything that they do.
Those who qualified for States will attend the State Career Development Conference at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City from March 4th to March 6th.
Congratulations to all who qualified! As our very own Anthony Proia would say, “We run NJ DECA!”
