OBSTACLE COURSE – 5 V 5 BASKETBALL – SCAVENGER HUNT

By Ryan Daves ’25

RAMSEY, NJ – To kick start another eventful day of Spirit Week, students came to school decked out in tropical-themed clothes.

Homerooms participated in a second round of guessing faculty members from their baby photos. The Seniors in Mr. Serra’s homeroom D102 strove to duplicate their 100% correct performance in the first round of the baby photos, while homerooms D101, D104, D107 and D108, which all posted a 90% performance in the first round, tried to challenge Mr. Serra’s exclusive hold on 1st place.

Because there were three activities planned for later in the day, class periods were shortened even further to guarantee enough time for fun in the afternoon. The activities planned were an Obstacle Course, a 5v5 Basketball Contest, and a Scavenger Hunt. When the tropical-clad students arrived in the gymnasium, Br. Travis opened the festivities with a prayer, and student body gave one spirited “BOSCO” chant.

In the Obstacle Course, participants flew through various challenges, such as walking in a straight line after a dizzying rotation around a bat, steering a scooter along a zig-zag course at midcourt, hitting a basketball layup, hurdling over and ducking under blue tape lines, skinning a backpack, and pushing to the finish line against a heavy rope held by two varsity football players. In the end, the Seniors dominated the competition, recording a total time of 1 minute and 6 seconds. The Freshman came in second with a time of 1 minute 55 seconds. Lastly, the Juniors and Sophomores recorded times of 2:10 and 2:15, respectively.

The second activity of the day was the Scavenger Hunt in which participants were given a list of items they had to find. Collecting all the items in the fastest time, the Juniors took first place with the Seniors and Freshman tying for second, and the Sophomores taking third.

Finally, in the highly anticipated 5v5 Basketball Contest, the Sophomores upset the Seniors, earning them a spot in the Finals, and the Juniors defeated the Freshmen. In the battle for third place, the Seniors emerged victorious 8-7. The final game between the Sophomores and Juniors, however, was a lot closer. The Juniors did end up winning 9-7 after a hard fought battle.

With an emphatic close to the day, the students were dismissed, many awaiting the last day of Spirit Week and the fun it would hold.
